I hail from Pōrangahau in the sunny Hawke’s Bay and am of Ngāti Kere descent. I have been a GP, a university academic, a public health physician, a Iwi Treaty negotiator and I am presently the Professor of Māori and Indigenous Research at Te Pūkenga’s Te Kura i Awarua Rangahau Māori Research Centre in Hawke’s Bay. My public health and research focus has been on the development of culturally resonant services for Māori. I am heavily focused on equitable health outcomes for Māori with a distinct angle on cultural safety.
